DIY Hunters Day

Con un poquito de retraso, aquí viene mi crónica de lo que fue el eventazo del fin de semana pasado.

Os cuento, para las que no sepáis de qué va esto.... Yo Dona y Handbox organizaron el DIY Hunters day el pasado sábado en Madrid. Fue un evento increíble, donde hubo de todo. Formación, charlas, talleres, venta de artículos preciosos, catering y hasta regalos.

Yo ya había tenido la oportunidad de asistir a más eventos de DIY, pero sin duda alguna, este no tuvo nada que ver. En este evento puedo decir que disfruté, aprendí, y tuve la oportunidad de oír a maestras del blogging que nos contaron sus experiencias.

Por la mañana tuvimos la parte de formación pura y dura. Conferencias, mesas redondas... todas ellas de la mano de grandes profesionales del DIY y marcas que colaboran con bloggers. 

Para que os hagáis una idea del nivelazo que había os menciono a algunos de los bloggers y marcas que participaron: Marta Barberá de 2nd funniest thing, Anna Díez de Fácil y Sencillo, Silvia Buján de Na Lua Dulce, Cristina Rodríguez de Mi armario coqueto, Laura Maroto de Trasteando DIY, Javier Barquín de Yo no lo tiraría, Rosa Montesa de Reciclado Creativo, Chris Bravo de Little Hannah, Ana Bolena de Hermanas Bolena, Mónica Diago de El taller de las cosas bonitas, Mar Ramos y María Alonso de Hello Creatividad, Carmen Tébar de Mi lowcostblog, Bárbara Solorzano de Mi cesta de mimbre, Ecoembes, Signus, Correos, Almacenes Cobian, Leroy Merlin y Novasol Spray. Como veis, un cartel inmejorable.

Para mi fue un puntazo el hecho de que no solo las blogueras nos contaron sus experiencias, sino que hablaron de un gran abanico de puntos determinantes a la hora de tener un blog de éxito: coolhunting, fotografía, organización....  También me gustó que no solo nos ofrecieron el punto de vista de los bloggers, sino también el de las marcas que se interesan por este sector y colaboran de una forma o de otra con ellos.

Se dio también mucha importancia a la unión entre el mundo crafter y el reciclaje, ya que para cualquier amante de las manualidades este punto es básico. Y es que muchas veces acumulamos objetos y objetos pensando en darles una segunda vida.

Un ejemplo de esto último es este maravilloso vestido de novia. ¿Adivináis con qué está hecho? ¡Con vasos de plástico!

Después del picoteo llegó el turno para el speed-dating. Tuvimos la posibilidad de preguntar a varios profesionales del DIY las dudas que tuviéramos, o simplemente pedir consejo. Para mi la única que pega que le pongo al evento fue que esta actividad me pareció muy corta, pues todos los asistentes queríamos preguntar algo, y no hubo tiempo para pasar por las 4 mesas.

Por último ofrecieron una grandísima variedad de talleres, de la mano de grandes blogueros, a los que desgraciadamente no me pude quedar. Me dio una pena enorme, porque me consta que fueron geniales.

Y antes de irnos, pasamos por mostrador para recoger esta caja con todos estos regalos tan molones. En resumen, un evento completísimo, muy muy bien organizado, del que me llevé muy buen sabor de boca. Como ideas claves me quedé con la importancia de estar al día de todo lo que pasa, (tanto en las redes como en la calle), si quieres vender, tienes que saber fotografiar, y el DIY es tendencia, ahora la gente está cansada de ir igual que el resto, mola poder personalizarnos la ropa, la decoración o cualquier cosa que se nos ocurra.

A bit late maybe but here I am to tell you about my experience at the DIY Hunters Day. Last week I had the opportunity to attend this fabulous event that took place in Madrid, organized by Yo Dona and Handbox. It was a very complete event. There were various conferences about DIY, workshops, stands with beautiful products, a yummy catering and even some gifts!

I had already gone to some other DIY-related events, but without doubt, this one has been the best. I learnt, enjoyed and met really nice people that share the same interests with me. I also had the chance to listen to some of the best DIY bloggers in Spain who told us about their experience and gave us some advice.

In the morning, all the conferences took place. They weren't only about the blogger's experiences, but also about how to colaborate with different brands.

They also mentioned how recycling and DIY are linked, and how important this fact is. It's funny to see how other bloggers do the same as me, they keep loads of things thinking that they will eventually use them for something else...

And talking about reclycling, can you guess what this wedding dress has been made with? With plastic glasses!!

After having some delicious food we had speed-dating with different bloggers. So we could ask them whatever we needed to know or ask them for advice. The only problem is that there wasn't enough time to get round all of them.

And lastly, there were lots of workshops to join. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay long enough to go to one of them, which I would have loved, because I'm sure they were all great.

And before we left, they gave us a box full of little gifts for our future DIY projects. So to sum up, it was an enriching experience, very well organised, that I enjoyed and I'm sure I will take advantage of. The key ideas that I kept from the event are the following: you need to be aware of every new trend that comes up; if you want to sell something, you first need to learn to take a good picture of it; and DIY is a trend at the moment, we are tired of wearing all the same clothes, so let's customise everything with our own hands!

I'm already looking forward to next DIY Hunters Day!

DIY SHOW

Hola!! Traigo noticias frescas! (Scroll down for English version)

Para los que no hayáis estado muy atentos y no os hayáis enterado aún... Este finde en Madrid se celebra el DIY SHOW, una feria de artesanía y craft, en la que podéis encontrar millones de materiales y artículos handmade preciosísimos!

¿Y quién va a estar por allí el domingo? SIIII, YOOOOO!!! No puedo estar más contenta.

Manualidades facilísimo me dijo que sería una de las afortunadas de participar en su stand el domingo, así que estaré allí, enseñándoos todo lo que hago y también haciendo una demo-taller para que aprendáis a hacer pulseras de macramé tan molonas como estas!

Además compartiré stand con dos compis que hacen un trabajo estupendo. Os recomiendo que os paséis por su blog. Son Mi armario coqueto e Ideando a mano.

Hi!!!! I have good news!!

For those of you who haven't yet realised... This weekend the DIY SHOW takes places in Madrid. It's a crafts fair, where you can find loads of materials and handmade staff!

And guess who'll be there on Sunday?? YEEEES, it's MEEEE!! I couldn't be happier!

Manualidades facilísimo told me that I was one of the lucky ones who would be participating at their stand on Sunday, so there I'll be, showing you all what I make for the blog and also giving a workshop to teach you how to make a macrame bracalet as nice as this one! (Picture above)

I'll be sharing the stand with two fellow bloggers. I recommend that you visit their blogs which are Mi armario coqueto and Ideando a mano.

Anillo DIY- Ring DIY

Hoy os traigo un tutorial super facilito para el finde! ¿Os animáis a ponerlo en práctica?

Alguna que otra vez os he enseñado anillos hechos con hilo mágico que he diseñado yo y que podéis comprar si queréis mandándome un email a .... Los anillos que ya os he enseñado los tenéis AQUÍ, AQUÏ y AQUÍ. 

Ya he tenido alguna petición para que haga un tutorial de anillos así que hoy os voy a enseñar a hacerlos, para que podáis hacer vuestros propios diseños echándole imaginación y creatividad. Son muy sencillos, ya veréis.

Vamos con el DIY!

Materiales:

- Un abalorio con agujeros.

- "Hilo mágico" o hilo de aluminio. Este hilo lo venden de diferentes grosores así que tenéis que comprar acorde al grosor del agujero del abalorio. Yo para este anillo he usado unos tres metros, pero porque es muy finitio, para otros anillos con hilo mágico más grueso suelo usar un metro.

- Alicates de cortar y alicates de punta redonda.

- Algo tubular del tamaño de vuestro dedo que tengáis por casa para darle la forma al anillo. Un rotulador, unos cubiertos, un pintalabios....

El paso a paso:

Primero tenéis que pasar el hilo mágico por el abalorio y centrarlo. 

Después lo colocáis en el tubo que tengáis y damos varias vueltas a los dos extremos que están a los dos lados del abalorio, para que así nos quede simétrico. Dependiendo del grosor tendréis que darle más o menos vueltas, eso va al gusto de cada una. Probároslo antes de seguir con el siguiente paso para aseguraros de que os está bien.

Y cuando hayáis acabado esto tenemos que dar vueltas alrededor del abalorio. Cuando veáis que os gusta lo que tenéis que hacer es cortar el sobrante de hilo mágico con los alicates de corte y esconder las puntas por debajo de la piedra con los alicantes de punta redonda.

Y ya está! ¿Sencillo, verdad? Aquí tenéis una foto más para que veáis que chulo queda puesto. ¡Estoy deseando ver fotos de los vuestros!

Hi there!!

I've got a really easy tutorial for you for the weekend!  Are you up for trying it??

I've already shown you some of the rings made with wire that I make and I also sell. You can see them HERE, HERE and HERE. And if you want to buy any of them you just have to send me an email to sewcreativa@gmail.com

A friend asked me to write a tutorial to show you how to make them yourselves. So you can make them now following this easy DIY and by using your imagination and creativity.

Materials (picture above):

- One hole bead.

- Wire. The width of the wire depends on the width of the hole of the bead that you are going to use. And the length depends on the width. For this ring, as the wire is very thin, I used 3 metres, but when I use a wider wire I use about 1 metre.

- Cutting and round-nose pliers.

- Something tubular of the size of your finger. It could be a marker, or some sort of rounded cutlery, or a lipstick...

Step by step:

First of all you have to put the wire through the bead and leave it in the centre.

After that you have to put the bead with the wire on top of the tube and turn both sides of the wire around the tube until you like it. Try the ring on to make sure that it fits.

The next step is wrapping the bead with the wire. When you see that it looks good, you have to cut the excess wire with the cutting pliers and then we have to hide the ends with the round-nose plier under the bead.

And that's it!! Easy, right? Can't wait to see the pictures of your ones!

Nuevas Sewñoritas! - New Sewñoritas!

Hola a todos!!

Ya casi estamos a mitad de semana. ¿Que tal estáis? ¿Pasando calor? Yo esta tarde me voy a la piscina, porque en Madrid es insoportable el calor!

Hoy os traigo dos modelos nuevos de Sewñoritas! Para las que no os acordéis o si os perdisteis el modelo anterior de estas preciosas muñecas de alambre, haced click AQUÏ. 

En cuanto les mandé una foto a mis amigas con el primer modelo de Sewñorita que diseñé me dijeron que querían una, y fue dicho y hecho! Como ya os conté se pueden hacer broche o broche-collar.

Aquí os presento a Sewñorita Natalia, personalizada como no podía ser menos, y con todo tipo de complementos: bolsito, collar, y cinturón con una flor!

Y aquí tenéis a Sewñorita Carol, con su flequillo, su lazo de tul y hasta un tocado!

Y hablando de tocados... varias personas me han animado a diseñar algún tocado.. y me lo estoy pensando. ¿Qué os parece la idea? ¿Os gustaría que os enseñase algún tocado? Espero respuestas!!

Hi everybody!!

Almost mid-week already... How are you all? It's absolutely boiling in Madrid... so today I'm going to the swimming pool!!

In today's post I'm going to show you two new Sewñoritas. For those who don't remember or missed the previous post where I showed you my first wire doll, you can have a look at it by clicking HERE.

So, it turns out that as soon as I sent my friends a photo of the first Sewñorita that I designed, they asked me to make one for them. And so I did! As I told you these Sewñoritas can be used as brooches or necklaces.

This is Sewñorita Natalia, entirely personalised of course. She's wearing all kind of accesories: a handbag, a necklace, and a belt with a flower on it!

And here is Sewñorita Carol! With her fringe, her tulle bow, and even a headdress!

And talking about headdresses... some people have encouraged me to design one...  and I've been thinking about it.. but I would like to ask you first, what do you reckon? Would you like me to show you some headdresses? Get back to me please!!

Boda Handmade! - Handmade wedding!

Hola!!

¿Qué tal estáis? ¿De vacaciones ya?

Aquellos que respondáis si... que sepáis que me muero de envidia!

¿Qué os traigo hoy? Bueno, resulta que la semana pasada fui a una boda de una amiga. La boda estuvo genial: emotiva, con muchos detalles, comimos de lujo, bailamos hasta las tantas sin parar... Y la novia iba espectacular. Pero, como ya sabéis, las bodas son carísimas, y para colmo este verano tengo dos. Así que para esta boda decidí hacerme yo misma el vestido y los complementos!

¿Qué os parece?

El vestido le hice gracias al curso de costura de Oh Mother Mine DIY. En sus clases decidimos que cada alumna nos haríamos un vestido como último proyecto. Buscamos patrones en revistas, los modificamos a nuestros gustos y... voilà! Yo tenía claro que quería un vestido de encaje, ajustado al cuerpo y con corte en la cintura y falda fruncida. Compré las telas en color coral, una de encaje y otra para el forro. Cogimos un patrón similar y le modificamos la parte de los hombros. He de reconocer que me costó confeccionarlo, era la primera vez que me hacía un vestido y tuve que echarle bastantes horas y mucha paciencia. Y aquí tengo que agradecer a Marta por su ayuda en las clases y a mi chico por su paciencia subiendo y bajándome la cremallera un millón de veces, cogiéndome alfileres donde yo no llegaba... etc.

Pero la verdad que el resultado fue inmejorable. Las que sois costureras, sobre todo las principiantes como yo, seguro que habéis tenido la misma sensación que yo cuando te confeccionas alguna prenda de vestir y el día que la estrenas te dicen... ¡qué bonito! Y aquí llega el momento en que te llenas de orgullo y dices... ¡lo he hecho yo! 

Y es que las ventajas de hacernos nosotras mismas la ropa son infinitas: nos la hacemos a nuestro gusto, nadie va a tener un vestido/camisa/falda igual, nos sale muy económico, nos lo adaptamos perfectamente a nuestro cuerpo... y encima, por lo menos para mi, coser es un hobby!

Bueno por últimos os dejo unas fotos más para que veáis los detalles del vestido y las telas. Y también los accesorios, que también son 100% handmade! Flor para el pelo a juego con el vestido, anillo y pendientes.

Y os dejo también con una foto para que me veáis con el conjunto puesto. No sé si os llamará más la atención mi atuendo o el de mi novio... Por si alguno os lo preguntáis... sí, es escocés de pura cepa, y no, no llevaba calzoncillos!

How are you guys? Have you started your holidays yet?

Those whose answer is yes... I really really envy you!

What do I have for today's post? Well, it turns out that last week I went to a friend's wedding. The wedding was fantastic: very emotional, with lots of little details, delicious food, dancing non-stop until the early hours.... and the bride looked spectacular. But, as you know, weddings are very expensive, and this summer I've been invited to two. So I decided to sew my own dress and make the accesories.

What do you think of it?

I made the dress thanks to the sewing course of Oh Mother Mine DIY that I went to. Each student had to choose a dress and sew it. We looked for the patterns in different magazines, we modified the patterns to get what we wanted to and... voilà! I knew that I wanted to have a lace dress, tight from the neck down to the waist and with a shirred skirt. I bought a piece of lace and a piece of lining in coral. I picked a similar pattern to what I had in mind and with the help of the teacher we modified the pattern a little bit. I have to say that it wasn't that easy to make the dress, especially as it was my first time! I have to thank Marta (the teacher) for all the help and also my boyfriend for his patience zipping up and down my dress hundreds of times and placing pins where I couldn't reach.

But the truth is that the result couldn't have been better. Those of you who are sewing fans surely have had that feeling of wearing a dress or shirt that you've made and someone saying to you... that's nice! And then comes the moment when you feel super proud of youself and say... I made it myself! 

The thing is that there are lots of advantages if we make our own clothes: we make the things that we like, nobody is going to be wearing the same as us, it's cheaper, and, at least for me, sewing is a hobby!

Well, you can see above some other pictures with the dress and the fabrics that I used. And also pictures of the accesories, that are also 100% handmade - a hair flower to go with the dress, a ring and earrings. And you can also see a picture of me and my boyfriend at the weeding, so that you can see how the dress looked when I wore it.

Probably my boyfriend's outfit is more striking than mine.... In case you were wondering, yes, he's Scottish, and no, he's not wearing boxers!
